The Community Leadership Association encourages and supports the leadership development efforts of its members in a variety of ways:
  • Innovative programming ideas, current trends in the leadership development movement, and assistance in initiating and operating all aspects of leadership development programming are provided through Leadership News, a quarterly newsletter.
  • Awareness of other leadership development networks, collaboration opportunities and other valuable community resources is fostered through frequent Member Services Digests delivered via broadcast fax and email.
  • Peer-to-peer networking is facilitated by an annual Resource Directory, listing The Community Leadership Association's member organizations and available peer assistance.
  • Access to curricula, programming ideas, training techniques and comparative program data is available through The Community Leadership Association's clearinghouse of sample materials useful in the operation of community leadership programs and through a comprehensive national data base of leadership development efforts.
  • Free and unlimited access to advice and assistance from The Community Leadership Association's staff is available through a toll-free hotline.
  • Opportunities to meet and share innovative and successful ideas, viewpoints and approaches are available through educational and training opportunities for leadership development professionals, volunteers and graduates of community leadership programs. These include an Annual Leadership Conference and an array of educational programs offered on a variety of topics relevant to community leadership development.
  • Opportunities to gain international recognition of graduates and program staff for their exemplary service and commitment to community are available through participation in annual awards programs.

Leadership Development Resources

Taking Leadership in Hand: A Program Development Guide is ideal for new and established programs alike. It addresses all operational areas of day-to-day concerns for a program. Trusteeship and the concept of "holding your community in trust" is what leadership development programs are all about. Taking Leadership to Heart: The Community Trusteeship Curriculum will help you integrate the principals of trusteeship into your program through video, handouts, examples, training techniques, alternative activities and 25 participant folders with class handouts and suggested readings.

The New Directions in Leadership Seminar is a hands-on approach to the facilitative and experiential learning styles addressed in cutting edge leadership programs. This seminar ntroduces innovative ways to run a more effective program. It also helps participants create and/or initiate a redesign in program curriculum.
